Radiation Oncologists, P.C. Your Treatment

Weekly Treatment Evaluation

Purpose

The doctor and/or nurse practitioner will normally see you once a week on the same day each week, after your treatment, to monitor your treatment and discuss your progress and side effects.

Please remember that if you wish to speak with a doctor or nurse practitioner you may do so on any day of the week.
The radiation oncology nurse is available every day to answer your questions and evaluation and manage any side effects.

What happens

No matter what type of cancer you have had, after your radiation therapy ends you will need regular checkups to monitor your progress and help you deal with any problems that arise. This phase of your treatment is called to as follow-up care. Your follow-up care will include checking the results of your treatment, but it may also involve more cancer treatment, rehabilitation, and counseling.

It may also include appointments with your original doctor, a surgeon, a medical oncologist (a doctor specially trained to treat patients with chemotherapy), and your radiation oncologist. Your follow-up care will depend on what type of cancer you have and other treatments you have had or will have.

Questions you may want to ask your doctor after radiation therapy:

  1. When can I go back to normal activities?
  2. How often will my follow-up appointments be scheduled?
  3. Which tests will be done and why?
  4. When can I wear a prosthesis or have reconstructive surgery?
  5. Do I need to continue changes in my diet?
  6. When can I resume sexual activity or become pregnant?
