Treatment Planning (Simulation)What to bringWear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove from the area of the body that will receive treatment. You may eat as you wish, take your usual medications, and drive yourself (unless instructed otherwise.) What happensThis appointment involves the taking of x-rays, and in most cases the placement of small permanent skin marks (tattoos) that outline the treatment area. Sometimes more than one simulation appointment is necessary. A limited CT scan may also be performed to help the radiation oncologist devise a more conformal treatment plan. This will allow your doctor to more precisely target the tumor and limit normal tissue, thereby increasing the ability to control your cancer and reduce side effects. Your daily treatment time is discussed at the completion of treatment planning. |
